REVERSE VIKING

YOUR local news might like to make cute jokes about Iceland's economy "melting", but it's really not that funny - the crisis even sent our Nordic friend's president to the hospital. As a result, the US dollar has grown to equal 105 Icelandic kroner, up from just 58 a year ago. But capitalism does reward opportunism, wink, wink. Assuage your guilt as you circle the carcass by flying the new Icelandair, which has new seats, new interiors and a new third cabin for $400/RT from NYC to Reykjavik, Nov.- Mar. (icelandair.com).

THE PITT IS LIT

CALL it ironic that the country's largest light festival goes down in one of its grittiest cities. But the Pittsburgh 250 Festival of Lights is nothing short of high-voltage wizardry - the kind that only French artists and tech geeks can produce. The entire downtown, Oakland and surrounding areas morph into a sprawling lighting installation. A must-see, now until Nov. 20 (pittsburghcelebrates.org).

BIER AT CAESARS

ACHTUNG: We're already midway through the month, time's running out to celebrate Oktoberfest. You have the why and the how. Need a where and when? Try Atlantic City's Pier Shops at Caesars, holding their first ever such festival tasting this Friday night, 5:30-8:30 (thepiershopsatcaesars.com).
