SOUNDING FAMILIAR

Page Six Photo

October 7, 2008 --

IS Christopher Buckley clairvoyant? Readers of "Supreme Courtship" might think so. Although Buckley turned in the political satire to his publisher in January, one character is "the cosmetically enhanced chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee who ran unsuccessfully for president and who never shuts up." Buckley admits the character was inspired by Sen. Joe Biden. The book's heroine from a big oil-producing state "wears glasses, shoots guns, and has a naughty librarian thing and a funny ac cent," he told Page Six from his office in DC. But "Pep per Cartwright" is a TV judge from Texas. "I wasn't aware of the existence of Sarah Palin until a month ago," said Buckley, who's smarting from all the cover age of the litigation over an out-of-wedlock son with the boy's money-seeking mother. Writing yesterday on the new Tina Brown Web site, The Daily Beast, Buckley said, "Since the matter involves a legal case, I am enjoined, despite fingers that truly itch to fire back - oh, how they itch - from climbing into this mud pit. I have to go on applying calamine lotion to my digits. Meanwhile, don't believe everything you read, even in exemplars of journalism."
