CAROLINE Kennedy, who strategizes her every move like Gen. Dwight Eisenhower planning for D-Day, has confounded the gossips. They've been speculating there's turbulence in her marriage to Edwin Schlossberg. But there he was in Denver, cracking up the Kennedy family onstage after Ted Kennedy's rousing speech. Caroline, 50, who was an early Barack Obama backer, could be following in the footsteps of her colorful grandfather, Joseph Kennedy, as US ambassador to London's Court of St. James'. Should Obama win, members of his national finance committee tell Santa Barbara News-Press gossip Richard Mineards the job is hers if she wants it. Caroline would get to live in very grand style. The London ambassador's official residence, Winfield House in Regents Park, the former home of Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton, is set in 12 acres of gardens, second only to Buckingham Palace in size.
