Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez are expected to be named AL All Star Game starters today when MLB announces the teams for the July 15 spectacular at Yankee Stadium.
A report yesterday morning on nypost.com, and in some editions of today's Post, reported some AL and NL starters incorrectly, but Jeter and A-Rod will in fact start.
Yankee closer Mariano Rivera also is expected to join Jeter and Rodriguez when the pitchers and reserves are named.
While the idea of honoring Rivera and the Yankees in the final All Star Game at the Stadium by starting him was floated, the plan calls for Rivera to work the final frame.
For Jeter, it's his ninth All Star Game. Jeter, the MVP of the 2000 game, has a .500 (8-for-16) All Star average.
This will be the 12th time Rodriguez has been named to the All Star team. He has appeared in 11 games; missing the 2000 game due to a concussion.
Jeter and Rodriguez said yesterday they weren't officially informed about their selections.
"That usually doesn't happen until Sunday [today]," Jeter said.
"I haven't heard that," Rodriguez said.
