'MARIE' MANNEQUIN MANIA

July 6, 2008 --

SHOPPERS at Henri Bendel had no idea why people were acting like mannequins the other day. At a Marie Claire party for the 25th anniversary of Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses, 100 actors sent by Chelsea theater troupe Upright Citizens Brigade and hired for the occasion posed as shoppers, then "froze" in place in the middle of the store. "This was a chic party and no one had a clue as to what was happening. These people were frozen for a full five minutes as people shopped around them," said a witness. "One woman screamed when a 'mannequin' jumped to life." Earlier, the troupe froze in Herald Square and stared up at a Ray-Ban billboard. "They all wore black and looked up. Traffic was backed up with people trying to figure out what was going on," said our spy.
