Don't be fooled by Corey's new age-y job as an acupuncturist. The 34-year-old professional healer is quite down-to-earth - much like his adorable date Robin, 26, an editor. This chill couple had much in common, including their appreciation for Half King, a classic literary-enthusiast pub in Chelsea. Will they see each other again? Signs point to yes - but that may or may not be a good thing!

After a long, exhausting day filled with electricity from the frequent thunderstorms, I wasn't sure what to expect on my date. Luckily, the clouds parted, and the night was a great change of events.
When I arrived, Robin was waiting at the table. I instantly felt comfortable. We laughed and chatted continuously as we drank wine and shared a tasting menu of the specials. We talked about our work and personal interests: I was impressed she plays guitar. We actually had a lot in common, including scuba diving, growing up on Long Island and a fascination with the psychology of emoticons. Robin was also curious to learn about acupuncture, which is always a good sign.
Robin is definitely cool by my standards. She's very genuine, intelligent, ambitious, grounded and beautiful. My impression is that all these traits make for a very busy woman (and that's not even adding in her commute from Brooklyn!). In my experience, love does not include a subway transfer, but hopefully she'll come to my office for a treatment!

I got to Half King a few minutes early and was already digging into a delicious Caprese salad when Corey arrived. He promptly sat down and dug in with me. Very cute! I knew he was an acupuncturist, so I expected someone totally crunchy and earthy, but Corey actually wasn't like that at all. He's really into art, and is a designer and an editor, too.
Half King is a really laid-back place - kind of like us! I'm a tad shy on first dates, but the attentive staff brought us some wine, which helped!
I recently started a new job, and I've had some new-ish back issues, so I was a bit distracted. Lucky for me, he didn't mind talking about it! He told me all about acupuncture and how it relieves pain. But, he also mentioned he wasn't into people who were "overwhelmed" by life. I may have given off that vibe.
In the end, I got his card and a kiss on the cheek. Not a match, but he's sweet and I may see him again... at his office!
