Dubious day-care centers throughout New York City have siphoned off millions of dollars in state funds for a host of unauthorized expenses that have nothing to do with caring for children, an audit revealed yesterday.
Payments for personal rent and appliances were just some of the ways day-care providers used money designated for children and working families.
Auditors from state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's office forwarded the names of 19 day-care facilities to law-enforcement authorities.
