Talks to avert a strike by Con Ed workers continued past a midnight deadline early today.
"We've stopped the clock," utility spokesman Michael Clendenin said.
Con Ed and Local 1-2 of the Utility Workers of America, which represents 9,000 of the company's 14,000 employees, resumed talking early yesterday.
Negotiations were suspended over the weekend when Gov. Paterson stepped in and suggested a 72-hour cooling off-period.
Union spokesman Joe Flaherty said a major sticking point has been Con Ed's proposal to switch from a traditional pension to a 401(k)-style plan for new employees.
