Heatseeker, the top older horse on the West Coast after winning the Santa Anita Derby and Californian, was scratched yesterday from today's Grade 1, $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup.
The 5-year-old Irish-bred, highweighted at 123 pounds for the mile and a quarter Gold Cup, was the 7-5 favorite on the morning line.
"We're not going to run because he has some filling in an ankle," trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said. "X-rays were negative. We're working on it with ice and hope it gets better soon."
Yesterday at Belmont ...
6TH RACE - Happy result for single Pick 6 player who cashed ticket worth more than $177G. Donna Sandee, 9-2, chased pace chased by 2-1 favorite Flashbulb Breeze. Top of stretch, Donna Sandee opened daylight, but just when she looked like winner, Milk Run, 13-1 under Jorge Chavez after much-improved effort rallying for fourth in similar spot, came charging to take lead mid-stretch. Then 5-2 Kaleigh Rose, Cornelio Velasquez, came with her late run, and those two dueled to wire, with Milk Run hanging tough to win by a head bob.
7TH RACE - Cool N Collective, 11-year-old gelding making his 66th start, was 3-5 choice dropping in for 10G for Bruce Levine, coming off two straight wins for 14G tag. He tracked pace set by 15-1 Sipho while wide under Cornelio Velasquez, cruised to lead in hand top of lane, looked like winner until 9-2 Ferocious Won came on to take command in final furlong.
