Bruce Levine, currently the leading trainer at Monmouth Park with 27 wins from 56 starters, had his whole stable of 41 horses at Monmouth tested for EPO by a state veterinarian at the request of the New Jersey Racing Commission on June 24. Results of the test should be available in one week.
Steve Asmussen, trainer of Horse of the Year Curlin, was informed by the Texas Racing Commission that his trainee Timber Rick tested positive for lidocaine on May 10, when she broke her maiden by seven lengths at Lone Star Park. According to his attorney Karen Murphy, Asmussen will fight the charges and any penalties associated with it.
1ST RACE: Apprentice Sebastian Morales won his second consecutive race since becoming a five-pound apprentice as he got Sonny Pajamas to save ground, angle outside for the stretch drive, gain the lead and then hold off the fast closing Debating for the victory.
6TH RACE: Brendans Warrior saved ground early, angled outside at the top of the stretch and then ran down pacesetting favorite Open Fly for the victory. Up the Limit stalked the pace while saving ground throughout but came up empty in the stretch drive to finish third.
9TH RACE: From this moment on, Fiona Freud goes on our avoid betting to win and selecting on top list. The favorite stalked the pace and took over the lead at the top of the stretch. She looked like a winner but then she seemed to hang, allowing both Outtawesthills and Sweet Slam to go by her before the wire, ending up third. She is now 0-for-17 and she can now be considered a confirmed money burner and heartbreaker. Select a stranger or a lightly raced horse before backing Fiona in the future.
