Needing no arm-twisting from father-in-law Tom Coughlin, Chris Snee signed a six-year, $43.5 million extension ($17 million guaranteed) yesterday that will keep the Giants' right guard under contract through 2014.

The signing bonus is $13.5 million.

"I am just happy to have it done before the season and really just have peace of mind and not worry about it and go out and play," said Snee. "I had faith that it would be done."

Snee is the third offensive lineman to sign a contract extension since the Giants shocked the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, joining LG Rich Seubert (through 2013) and LT David Diehl (through 2013). C Shaun O'Hara (through 2012) and RT Kareem McKenzie (through 2012) already had been locked up.

"We are very pleased to get Chris extended," GM Jerry Reese said. "He has been a tremendous player and person for us since day one. It's also very important to keep our offensive line intact."

Snee, who has made 48 consecutive regular-season starts, has not missed a game since sitting out the final five games of his rookie year due to an inflamed gland just beneath his jaw. He was a second alternate Pro Bowl selection last season. Snee has always harbored the hope that he could play his entire career with the Giants.

The Giants were awarded 6-4, 350-pound guard Kurt Quarterman off waivers from the Falcons.
