Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert struck a last-minute deal yesterday that allows him to stay in office for three months - but likely means he'll be ousted by September.
The predawn agreement between his Kadima Party and its main coalition partner, the Labor Party, killed right-wing efforts to bring down Olmert's government in a parliamentary vote.
It also allows Olmert to go forward with a controversial swap of Lebanese terrorists for Israeli soldiers. Olmert said the opposition was trying to scuttle his revived efforts to reach a historic peace agreement with Syria and the Palestinians.
Under his deal, the prime minister agreed to hold a primary on Sept. 25.
