The Department of Homeland Security will tell 7,000 businesses here and across the country this week that they're considered high-risk terrorist targets because they store large amounts of chemicals.
The feds plan to assess the vulnerability of the sites - ranging from chemical plants and universities to food-processing centers and hospitals - to determine how best to regulate security measures.
In a related move, Commissioner Ray Kelly said last week the NYPD would get advanced radiation detectors that can be carried in knapsacks or on bikes and that can help cops patrol such potential targets as ballparks and the United Nations.
