John McCain was in Canada yesterday, pro- moting himself as a free trader and slamming Barack Obama for waffling on NAFTA.
"Threatening to abrogate an agreement that has increased trade and prosperity is nothing more than retreating behind protectionists' wall," McCain told the Economic Club of Toronto.
Some voters in industrial states believe expanded free trade helped send manufacturing jobs overseas. Obama has said he'd try to renogotiate NAFTA.
