WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama have set their first joint appearance for next week, at a fund-raiser where she will encourage a group of her wealthiest supporters to write big checks to her former rival.
The appearance by the once bitter adversaries, to be held at Washington's swank Mayflower Hotel, marks the beginning of what the Obama camp hopes will be a long and lucrative friendship.
"They want everybody to write $2,300 checks," said former Rep. Tom McMillen, a Clinton fund-raiser.
"I think it's a good thing. Obviously, the senator wants to be as helpful as possible to the ticket. She's just reaching out to try to do it."
