EX-O GIBBONS A DUCK

By DAN MARTIN

June 17, 2008

The Long Island Ducks have been giving second chances - not to mention third and fourth shots - to players for years.

You can add Jay Gibbons to that list.

The minor league team of the independent Atlantic League signed the former Oriole yesterday. Gibbons, who was with the team last night but didn't play, had been searching for a new club since being released by Baltimore prior to the beginning of the regular season. The outfielder was suspended by major league baseball after a report surfaced that he used banned substances and he admitted in December that he had used HGH. He wasnamed in the Mitchell Report.

The 15-game suspension was to be served during the regular season, but Gibbons was jettisoned by the Orioles after hitting just .189 during spring training and not, the team said, because of the looming suspension. That suspension was later rescinded as part of baseball's new drug-testing policy.
