DIGITAL STATIC FROM CHUCK

By PETER COX

June 16, 2008

The digital revolution is coming, and many people may be left in the dark, Sen. Charles Schumer warned yesterday.

On Feb. 18, 2009, all broadcast TVs will go from analog to digital signals, leaving rabbit-eared sets in a fuzz. The feds have offered $80 coupons to help pay for switching equipment, but they expire in 90 days.

"We need to make people aware of the transition," said Schumer (D-NY). "And then we need to make it as easy as possible to obtain the necessary converter boxes."

He called for a coupon expiration-date extension.
