'BILLS' HIGHWAY TO BE NAMED FOR BUFFALO'S FAVORITE SON

By PETER COX

June 16, 2008

"Go Bills!"

Tim Russert's trademark sign off on "Meet the Press" was a cheer for his hometown Buffalo Bills.

Now, several New York politicians are proposing to rename the road to the Bills' stadium after Russert, who was felled by a heart attack Friday.

Sens. Charles Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rep. Brian Higgins (D-Buffalo) will introduce the resolution today.

"He was Mr. Buffalo," Schumer said. "Buffalo was in his blood and his bones. His blue-collar Buffalo sensibility guided him throughout [his career]."

The resolution would rename a portion of US Route 20, which runs past Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Russert was a huge Bills fan, and would always ask Schumer if there was something he could do to help keep the team in Buffalo.

"He lived and breathed the Buffalo Bills," Schumer said. "We hope that by naming this road in his honor we are memorializing one of New York's proudest sons."
