SUNSET RACING STARTS TODAY

By ED FOUNTAINE

Sunset racing begins today, with first post 3 p.m., and continues every Friday throughout meet, including, for some misguided reason, Fourth of July, when you'd think NYRA would have decency to let fans and racetrackers go home early for barbecues and fireworks.

SECOND RACE: In just fourth 2-year-old heat this year in NY, for state-bred fillies, Jimmy Jerkens' first-time-starter Doremifasollatido was hammered to 7-5 choice under Eibar Coa, sat off three-way speed duel, rallied outside turning for home, made lead in stretch; but through final furlong, Mike Hushion's firster Chartreux, 2-1 with Channing Hill up, after rallying in tandem with favorite while widest of all, wore down Doremifasollatido in long drive to wire.

THIRD RACE: Too bad Big Brown didn't run like this. Stormin Normandy, owned by IEAH Stable and trained by Rick Dutrow Jr., was 4-5 favorite under Cornelio Velasquez in Papua overnight stakes for NY-breds at 61/2 furlongs. In virtual match race, Stormin Normandy went to front, set swift pace (:21.75, :44.49) under heavy pressure from Market Psychology, Eibar Coa up. Then ran that way 1-2 all the way around, with Stormin Normandy edging clear late.
