THROUGH THE BINOCS

By ED FOUNTAINE

June 12, 2008

Track was fast, turf firm; Eibar Coa, bouncing right back from cowboy ride aboard Tale of Ekati in Belmont, had three-bagger to increase meet lead to 36 winners; Kent Desormeaux, who also didn't ride so well in Belmont, won a pair, as did Cornelio Velasquez.

FOURTH RACE: With Belmont Stakes Day carryover of $1,186,625, Pick 6 bettors poured another $3,217,655 into the pool. Love Co, 7-5 favorite here, looked like he'd get chalk-players off to a good start when he gunned up rail to open lengthy daylight lead under Edgar Prado, but 5-2 My Dinah closed in around turn, took command mid-stretch.

FIFTH RACE: Hot Table, 8-5 choice under Desormeaux, tracked early pace, rallied into contention around far turn going mile-and-eighth on turf, but was flattening out in upper stretch when he was forced to check in tight quarters. Youbethecan, Velasquez riding for Rick Dutrow Jr., ran them all down in final furlong.
