GOV GIVES ON SECURITY HEAD

By FREDRIC U. DICKER

June 12, 2008

ALBANY - Gov. Paterson yesterday agreed that the head of his scandal-scarred State Police security detail should be picked by the state's top cop and not by the governor himself.

"The issue was the governor was choosing the head of the detail and they don't want me to do it. I actually would agree with that," said Paterson, who received the recommendation from Harry Corbett, his new State Police superintendent.

Paterson asked Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to conduct a full-scale probe of possible political dirty tricks by rogue members of the State Police shortly after taking office in early April.
