PREPPY BIG: I MIS-SPOKE

By YOAV GONEN

June 11, 2008

The principal of the elite York Prep Academy in Manhattan, Chris Durnford, is no longer an Olympian.

The entry on the school's Web site saying he was "captain of the Canadian bicycling team and an Olympic athlete" has been removed - following an article in yesterday's Post that exposed those claims as false.

Durnford said he amended the entry, which he claimed was an error made by his father-in-law, the school's headmaster.

Durnford said he had trained for the Olympics as a member of the Canadian Cycling Association but didn't make the national team.

Other biographical information on the Web site that reads, "Degree: Columbia University," was not changed - even though he hasn't earned a degree from the school.

"That was never a claim that I've graduated from there - that's just how we show that people have taken classes from there," he said.
