TRENTON, NJ - Gov. Jon Corzine yesterday predicted the dispute over his e-mails to ex-girlfriend Carla Katz will go all the way to the state Supreme Court.
"It will go to the Supreme Court, regardless of whether it sustains my view or the opponent's view," Corzine said on WOR radio.
A Superior Court judge has ordered Corzine to release e-mails he and his staff exchanged with Katz, a state-worker union leader Corzine once dated, but Corzine has vowed to appeal and asked the court to stay release of the e-mails.
The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed by state Republican chairman Tom Wilson, who questioned whether the e-mails tainted state worker-contract talks in 2006 and 2007.
Corzine contends the e-mails can stay private under executive privilege.
Wilson said Corzine could end the dispute now simply by releasing the e-mails.
Katz gained attention during Corzine's successful 2005 gubernatorial run when it was revealed he paid the mortgage on her house and gave her other gifts the two have refused to disclose.
Katz dated Corzine from 2002 to 2004.
