The Newark Roman Catholic Archdiocese yesterday named its first Cuban-born priest as an auxiliary bishop for Union County.
Manuel Cruz, 54, has worked as a priest in New Jersey since he was ordained in 1980.
Newark Archbishop John Myers said Cruz was known "not only for his extensive involvement in ministry to the Spanish-speaking, but also for his deep commitment to the health and needs of the poor."
