MIKE AIDE NIXES CONVENTION

By DAVID SEIFMAN

June 4, 2008

Deputy Mayor Kevin Sheekey has turned down an offer to manage the Republican presidential convention in Minnesota, The Post has learned.

"I would like to have him stay here," said Mayor Bloomberg, who tapped Sheekey to oversee the 2004 GOP convention at Madison Square Garden. "He's very valuable."

Columnist Robert Novak had reported in Sunday's Post that McCain's campaign was seriously considering hiring Sheekey, the man who dreamed up the Bloomberg-for-president campaign.

Aides to both Bloomberg and McCain yesterday confirmed the accuracy of Novak's report.

Sheekey didn't respond to questions yesterday, but sources said he had decided to stay in New York.
