J.P. Padron homered and drove in a career-high five runs, lifting Rice to an 11-2 win and keeping the Owls unbeaten in the Houston regional last night in Houston.

St. John's pitcher George Brown suffered his first loss in 10 decisions.

East Carolina 9, Columbia 0

In Conway, S.C., East Carolina took an early lead behind home runs from Jamie Ray and Corey Kemp and eliminated Columbia in the Conway Regional of the College World Series .

Columbia, which made its first regional appearance since 1976, finished the year 22-30.

Vanderbilt 9, Stony Brook 4

In Tempe, Ariz., Andrew Giobbi was 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead a 16-hit attack and Vanderbilt beat Stony Brook in an elimination game in the Tempe Regional.

The Seawolves (34-26), making their second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, turned a triple play in the top of the second inning.
