NEW MOM SURVIVES IN DEATH CRASH

By TAYLOR VECSEY

June 1, 2008

A Long Island motorist eight months pregnant veered into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into another car, killing its 74-year-old driver and forcing doctors to perform an emergency C-section to save her child, police said yesterday.

Jennifer Jorgensen, 28, of Miller Place, was driving east Friday on Whisky Road in Ridge when she drifted into oncoming traffic, said Detective Sgt. Michael Tarulli of the Suffolk County police.

She rammed a 1997 Ford driven by Robert Kelly of Ridge, killing him. His wife, Mary Kelly, 70, was critically injured.

Doctors at Stony Brook University Medical Center later delivered Jorgensen's premature girl.

The tot was listed in serious but stable condition and was in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, police said.
