A 'GRAND' MEET FOR TRACK FANS

By BRIAN LEWIS

May 31, 2008

Track fans who can't wait for the U.S. Olympic trials or the Beijing Games can get their fix at the Reebok Grand Prix at Icahn Stadium, starting today at 2:30 p.m. Some of the events, especially the dashes and shot put, could be previews of the Olympic finals.

Tyson Gay and Usain Bolt in the men's 100-meter dash, Lauryn Williams vs. Veronica Campbell-Brown in the women's dash, and China's Liu Xiang against Allan Trammell in the 110 hurdles are a few of the events that fans can see (8 p.m., ESPN2, 1:30 p.m. tape-delay tomorrow on CBS).

Gay, who won the 100, 200 and 4x100 at last year's World Outdoor Championships, faces Bolt for the first time in the 100, with the Jamaican's 9.76 run May 3 making him the second-fastest in history.

The women's race will be a rematch of last year's World Championship final in Osaka, a photo-finish so close it took five minutes to declare Campbell-Brown the victor over Williams, both in 11.01.
