CHUTE CASE FLOATS AWAY

By JAMIE SCHRAM and HASANI GITTENS

May 28, 2008

Parachutist Jeb Corliss wasn't allowed to jump from the Empire State Building, but charges against him for the stunt may finally have to be dropped after evidence in the case disappeared, his lawyer said yesterday.

"One or more individuals at the NYPD property bureau have succeeded in performing a far more spectacular feat by making evidence disappear into thin air," said the lawyer, Mark Heller.

He said missing video cassettes prove Corliss wasn't acting recklessly.

NYPD Assistant Chief Michael Collins said the department is probing an "allegation" concerning evidence "missing from the DA's office." The DA had no comment.
