Them There Eyes made a powerful wide move on the far turn to reach contention and then blew by the leaders in the stretch to win the $111,400 Mount Vernon Handicap for New York-bred fillies and mares. Favored Factual Contender was second, three lengths behind the winner. Jose Espinoza rode the winner for trainer Kathleen Feron, running the mile and a sixteenth in 1:44.06 over the turf course rated as good.
3RD RACE - Nice job by Javier Castellano aboard Senorita Swinger to get the victory. The Jimmy Jerkens trainee battled early with Forest Jazzy and then took back to stalk the pace. Shopit made a wide move to gain the lead, but in the stretch drive Senorita Swinger came back along the rail to gain the lead nearing the wire for the victory.
6TH RACE - Favored Inter Galactic was squeezed back soon after the start and trailed the field early. Turning for home, he was starting to make his run for the lead and once he found a clear lane, he took off. He was able to catch Pimentinha a couple of steps from the wire for the victory.
7TH RACE - Summer Patriot was able to stalk the pace from the outside and then took over the lead while turning for home. He was then able to hold off Good Request for the victory. The race was marred by a spill as Forbidden Thought went down after the finish line. He broke down in his right front leg and was euthanized on the turf course. Jockey Jose Espinoza was not injured.
