A pregnant woman driving by Rockefeller Center yesterday went into labor behind the wheel, causing her to lose control of the SUV and jump the curb, injuring one pedestrian and herself.

The woman, eight months pregnant, was not identified by police. She and the pedestrian were both taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital with injuries described as minor.

The woman's husband declined to comment on his wife and baby at the hospital yesterday afternoon. He walked the halls with their other child - who was in the car at the time of the accident - as he waited.

The pedestrian was part of a tour group from New England.

Witnesses said they heard screeching tires just before the crash and had only a moment's warning.

"I got out of the way in the nick of time," said Audrey Carnedale, who was walking with her daughter and mother through Rockefeller Center to the American Girl doll store at the time.

"It looked like the driver was about to park the car, but I had a funny feeling," said her mother, Shirley Mesick.
