B'KLYN SUIT: NO MORE 'CLIP' ART

By STEFANIE COHEN

May 19, 2008

A Brooklyn artist who has created album covers for the Beastie Boys, Nirvana and Tool is being ripped off by an Internet interloper selling his work online, a lawsuit claims.

Alex Grey, 54, who describes his artwork as "a contemporary blend of sacred of visionary art," says there's nothing sacred about the guy ripping him off.

According to the suit, Juan Fernandez, also of Brooklyn, has been making a killing selling reproductions of Grey's work on his Web site, mysticmana.com.

Gray worries the alleged knockoffs cost him more than the profits he makes. "People won't know whose [work] it is, and basically they'll think it's clip art," he said.

Grey wants Fernandez to cough up any money he made from the art, as well as protection for his trademark.
