ASSAULT RAP STUNS DELI DEFENDER

By ALEX GINSBERG

May 17, 2008

A Brooklyn bodega owner who expected to be cleared yesterday of charges he attacked a teen customer with a hammer instead found himself indicted on first-degree assault charges.

"I'm disappointed," said Salah Ahmad, 36. "I'm going to fight it."

Ahmad had put his faith in a surveillance video from his shop, Munchie's, in Brownsville, that appeared to show him coming to the aid of a clerk who'd been attacked by several boys.

"Frankly, we're astonished by this result," said lawyer Gary Conroy. "Mr. Ahmad was defending himself."

The boy who was struck by the hammer, Bunkless Bovian, 14, suffered a skull fracture. He was never charged.
