The subway's gone submarine . . . again.

A fleet of retired city subway cars was dumped into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Maryland yesterday as part of a reef-building project.

More than 40 of the cars were shoved off a barge to build the first of five artificial fish habitats about 19 miles off shore to attract anglers and tourists.

Hundreds of the stainless-steel cars have been shipped to states along the eastern seaboard, including those that make up the Red Bird Reef in Delaware, named after the famous subway-car model.
