VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict appealed to Israel yesterday to help stem a sharp decline in the country's Christian population.
"I know that you share my concern over the alarming decline in the Christian population in the Middle East," the pontiff said. The pontiff also asked Israel "to make every effort to alleviate the hardship suffered by the Palestinian community."
