The city's push to go green could take yellow cabs off the road, taxi-fleet owners fear.
The mandatory minimum of 25 miles per gallon that the Taxi and Limousine Commission has instituted is easy on the earth, but a strain on fleet owners to get parts and repairs.
Many claimed the hybrids have 20 to 25 percent "downtime" - or periods off the streets - compared to just 4 percent with the gasguzzling old models.
