POLITENESS IS IN THE AIR

By PATRICK GALLAHUE

May 7, 2008

Workers at the region's airports are receiving "be nice" training to help them deal with delay-crazed travelers.

"When we employ these skills we can take control of a situation and actively calm a traveler," said project director Tom Murphy.

Companies that operate out of Kennedy Airport will enroll about 500 workers in the "be nice" training over the next month and Fordham University will subsequently monitor the working conditions to see if they improve, Murphy said.

He hopes to take the project nationwide.
